Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen

The Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen is a classic anthem of our city.
We recorded the track to use with our Doric Film Festival 2021 entry. “I’m affa prood o’ ma sang” which was written by our good friend Duncan Harley.

The song, ‘The Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen’ was written by a girl from London called Mary Webb and her husband Mel. Mary died a pauper and to this day there’s no plaque or recognition of her in Aberdeen. Despite her fantastic contribution to our musical history with this famous song known the world over. Frustrated by this oversight, Duncan thought it was a great fit for our entry to the Doric Film Festival 2021 to help remember Mary and maybe inspire someone to erect a blue plaque.
