One Man Ceilidh Band in Aberdeen & Scotland
A full Scottish ceilidh experience from one professional musician.
Iron Broo’s One Man Ceilidh Band is performed by Charlie Abel, founder of Iron Broo, and is ideal for smaller weddings, parties, community events and venues where a full band simply isn’t necessary.
Charlie combines live accordion with MIDI bass and rhythm accompaniment, creating a surprisingly full and lively ceilidh-band sound from one musician.
Every dance is clearly called and explained, so complete beginners can join in just as easily as experienced ceilidh dancers.

A Full Ceilidh Sound from One Musician
This is much more than simply a solo accordion player.
The One Man Ceilidh Band has been developed to give you the drive, rhythm and atmosphere of a proper Scottish ceilidh while keeping the line-up compact and flexible.
Charlie plays the accordion live, with MIDI bass and rhythm accompaniment helping to create a strong, full dance-band sound.
It works particularly well for smaller weddings, birthday parties, anniversaries and private celebrations, or in venues where space is limited.
Expert Dance Calling Included
You don’t need to know any of the dances beforehand.
Charlie explains and calls every dance clearly, choosing dances to suit the people in the room and keeping things moving at a pace everyone can enjoy.
That means complete beginners, children, experienced dancers and overseas guests can all join in.
The aim is simple: get people onto the dance floor and make sure they have a great time.
Is a One Man Ceilidh Band Right for Your Event?
The solo option can be an excellent choice for:
- Smaller and intimate weddings
- Birthday and anniversary parties
- Family celebrations
- Community events
- Burns Nights and St Andrew’s events
- University and corporate events
- Smaller venues with limited performance space
- Events where a compact and flexible setup makes sense
For bigger celebrations, you can also choose the Iron Broo Duo or larger 3, 4, 5 and 6-piece ceilidh band line-ups.
Meet Charlie Abel
Charlie Abel founded Iron Broo in 1992 and has since performed at more than 1,000 weddings and events.
As accordionist, ceilidh caller and bandleader, Charlie has spent more than 30 years learning what makes a ceilidh work.
A successful ceilidh is about much more than simply playing the tunes. Reading the room, choosing the right dances, helping beginners, keeping the evening flowing and knowing when to change the pace all come from experience.
The One Man Ceilidh Band gives you that same Iron Broo experience in the most compact line-up available.
One Man Ceilidh Band + DJ/Disco
Want the ceilidh as well as modern party music?
A DJ/disco option can also be added, allowing the evening to move naturally from live Scottish ceilidh dancing into pop, rock and party favourites later on.
This works particularly well for weddings and birthday parties where you want a mixture of traditional dancing and familiar floor-fillers without having to book a separate entertainment supplier.
A Great Option for Destination Weddings & Events Abroad
The One Man Ceilidh Band is also a particularly practical option for destination weddings and overseas events.
Planning your wedding abroad? See our Destination Wedding Ceilidh Band service for weddings across Europe and beyond.
With only one musician travelling, flights, accommodation and local transport can be considerably simpler than taking a full band abroad, while your guests still get a genuine Scottish ceilidh with live accordion and full dance calling.
Charlie and Iron Broo have performed internationally in countries including Italy, Spain, Germany, Norway, Ireland and Latvia.
For some overseas events, Charlie can also work with a suitable PA system provided by the venue or a local production company.

One Man Ceilidh Band FAQs
Does one musician really sound like a full ceilidh band?
Charlie plays live accordion supported by MIDI bass and rhythm accompaniment, producing a much fuller and more rhythmic sound than you might expect from one musician.
Do you call the dances?
Yes. Every dance is clearly explained and called, so no previous ceilidh experience is necessary.
Is a One Man Ceilidh Band suitable for a wedding?
Absolutely. It is particularly well suited to smaller and more intimate weddings. For larger weddings, the Iron Broo Duo or a larger band may be a better fit.
Can you provide a DJ or disco as well?
Yes. A DJ/disco option can be added for modern party music after or between the ceilidh dancing.
Do you bring your own sound equipment?
For most UK events, yes. Iron Broo can provide the PA and equipment required for the performance. For some overseas events, we can also work with suitable equipment supplied locally.
Can you perform outside Scotland?
Yes. The One Man Ceilidh Band is available throughout the UK and is particularly practical for destination weddings and overseas events because only one musician needs to travel.
How much does a One Man Ceilidh Band cost?
Prices depend on the date, location, performance length and travel involved. Send us your event details and we’ll confirm availability and provide a quote.
